On March 16, 2026, Action for Congo held a congressional briefing to provide Members of Congress and their staff with an in-depth analysis of the impact of the Washington Accords on communities in the DRC. The briefing brought critical attention to the gap between the accords’ stated objectives and the realities faced by civilians on the ground.
Participants examined how ongoing insecurity, displacement, and limited access to basic services continue to affect millions of Congolese people, despite diplomatic efforts. Particular emphasis was placed on the experiences of victims, especially women, children, and internally displaced persons, whose voices are often underrepresented in policy discussions. Action for Congo called on policymakers to prioritize human rights, accountability, and community-centered approaches in U.S. policy toward the DRC, ensuring that the lived realities of affected populations remain at the forefront of decision-making.
